In over 10 years, I have never said – “Leads are easy.”
Anyone who tells you that leads are easy should be your warning sign to run from them. You may have heard it said something like this:
- Just go buy some leads and start calling
- All you have to do is buy some leads and start building your business.
- Just pick up the phone and dial
- Our company recommends “XYZ Leads Company” as our approved lead vendor. Buy from them.
- Etc. Etc. Etc…
Let me be straight with you… choosing to use leads to build your MLM or Network Marketing business is HARD work… and at times it can just plain suck!
Let me put it to you another way using a few examples:
Example #1 – You want to be a real estate agent. You sign up for real estate school so you can learn what you need to pass the state exam. They get you all fired up and tell you what you need to know, and then you pass the state exam with flying colors. Then, you apply and sign up with a local real estate company. Let’s say ReMax. You do everything they tell you to. You get signs. You send out post cards. You put your name and number on business cards, posters, bill boards, etc…. and nothing. Not one sale yet. Or, maybe one. Ask anyone who has ever tried. Selling homes… and getting your name out there and getting referrals, and making a full-time income in real estate is hard… VERY hard. Most will crash and burn.
Example #2 – You want to be a doctor. You have good grades and you start to work your way through school… Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Year. You struggled through Micro Biology, but passed. Then, you get the course that separates the pre-med students from qualifying for medical school – Organic Chemistry. This course is HARD, and it will challenge you like no other course you’ve ever had. Most pre-med students will drop out and change their major because of this course.
Example #3 – You want to grow your home-based business. You have spoken with all your friends and family, and now they’re afraid of you. That really sucked. So now what. You listen to your upline and they tell you to hang out at Barnes and Noble and Starbucks and recruit. You hate talking to strangers because they came in for coffee, not to be pitched on a business. The Starbucks manager isn’t very happy with you either. So, you hear some people in your company are buying leads. Wow!! That sounds great. You pay $100 for some leads and just know that you have finally found the holy grail. You begin calling them… No, No, No answer, Wrong number, What are you talking about, No, No, No, Sounds like a pyramid, Maybe, No, No… And, you quit calling because you can’t take it anymore. Most people will quit before they ever give themselves a chance.

I know it does because I’ve been there and I have heard this from many of our customers over the years.
Do Leads Work?
Do leads work? Yes they do. I would not still have a company after 9+ years if they didn’t.
Do real estate agents make a living? Yes. But, it takes something that those who don’t make it are missing.
Do people ever become doctors? Yes. But it takes something special to make it to med school and through med school to ever get to residency and become your doctor.
Do people ever make any money (I mean REAL money) in network marketing? Yes. But, it takes something special, deep within, to find the kind of success that people dream of.
What is that something special? What is that thing that is deep within?
I can tell with almost 100% certainty those who have it and those who don’t. I can hear it in their language and see it in how they carry themselves. It is a desire that cannot be shaken. It is a determination that cannot be swayed. It is a commitment that has the strength of steel. It is a focus that is laser sharp.
If you want to see the difference, go to your next company convention and study the difference between those who are your top 100 income earners from everyone else. It’s not luck. It’s not about their position.
So, are leads hard? Yes they are. But, if a person is willing to learn, commit, desire, focus, and determine to be successful, to do what it takes, they will find what those who are in the top 100 have found while everyone else whines, complains, and talks about “some day.”
- Ask anyone who has ever run a marathon what it took to go 26.2 miles.
- Ask any professional athlete or Olympic athlete what it took to get where they are.
- Ask anyone on The Biggest Loser what it took to lose 150 pounds.
- Ask anyone in any professional career who is making over $100,00 or $500,000, or $1,000,000 what it took for them to get where they are.
- Ask Niccolo Paginini what it took to be considered the #1 violinist of all time.
- Ask Billy Graham what it has taken to overcome and be one of the greatest evangelists of all time.
Ask anyone who has ever made it where you want to be, and you may be humbled by the price you have paid compared to the price they have paid for their success.
You cannot run a marathon without going out day after day, running, stretching your distance, eating right, taking care of your body, hydrating, and running more.
You cannot become a doctor without passing Organic Chemistry. And… I would personally prefer my doctor to have aced Organic Chemistry.
You cannot become a full time network marketer, living the six figure dream, without doing the hard work, facing a ton of rejection, and speaking to strangers. It won’t happen.
So… do the hard work!
